The route passes through the most beautiful places of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan: the celestial mountain ranges of the Tien Shan and its emerald lakes, where between the mountain ranges on the sandy and steppe valley, slowly moving the largest river in the Semirechye — Ili. Its tributaries as life-giving vessels penetrate the desert plain, wriggling along the canyon, with lunar and Martian landscapes, and the mountain plain — Jailau. It is here that you will feel as if you have visited different parts of the world at the same time, as this route is unique for its extremely diverse landscapes.

Almaty Region Adventure Tour is also a historical and informative tour, as the beginning of the tour takes place along one of the ancient trade arteries, the Great Silk Road. We will visit the places where the Saky tribes of the first millennium BC lived and where the great conqueror of the world Genghis Khan with his mighty army took place in the XIII century. On the way we will meet abandoned places of ancient settlements, many mounds, ancient rock petroglyphs and places where archeological excavations were carried out.

Assa plateau

High mountain plateau, the height reaches 3000 m. In spring and summer, it acquires striking shades and a lot of colors, as the Assachs are home to a huge number of plants. The purest river Assa flows along the plateau, the cycling route becomes more rapid, and in the middle of the cycling route with emotions we will cross this river. Mesmerizing landscapes of the moment will replenish the memory of your photo and video gadgets.

Bartogay Reservoir

The Bartogaiskoye reservoir surprises with its beauty. If a small lake is found in a rocky mountainous area on Mars, it will look like such a mystical view as Bartogay. And around, on the hills, there are a lot of mounds of Saka and Türkic times.

Charyn Canyon

Charyn Canyons — called the «Valley of Castles», a unique canyon of its kind, very similar, but inferior in size to the famous Grand Canyon in Colorado, USA. The height of the canyons reaches 200 meters. And in the depths of the canyons flows a stormy river Charyn, where we go down by bicycle.

Kolsay Lake

Kolsay Lake is called «the pearl of the Northern Tien Shan». The lake is located at an altitude of 1800 m in the mountains of the eastern part of the Kungei Alatau ridge in one amazingly beautiful mountain gorge. The lake is surrounded by coniferous forest from the Tien Shan spruce and birches, and the wind carries their flavor. There is a rainbow trout among the fauna.

Lake Kaindy

The lake was formed as a result of an earthquake in January 1911, when a landslide blocked the river. The river eventually flooded a gorge with coniferous forest, forming a fairy-tale transparent lake with protruding trunks that look like the masts of sunken sailing ships. Lakes are often called «dead» because there are no fish in the lake.

Tekes River valley

The Tekes River is one of the two rivers (along with the Kunges) that make up the Ili River. The length is 438 km, of which about 100 km fall on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, including 40 km within the territory of Kazakhstan and about 60 km along the border of Kazakhstan and China. The place is small tourism, which allowed to preserve the virgin beauty of nature! In the depth of the gorge there is a bowl-shaped waterfall. It is not very high, but thanks to its shape it is very interesting!

Tuzkol Lake

Bitter-saline mountain lake in Kazakhstan is located on the left bank of the upper reaches of the Charyn River. This lake can be compared with the famous dead sea by its water composition! In clear weather from Tuzkol right in the south one can see the majestic peaks of Tien Shan: the pyramidal peak of Khan-Tengri (7010 m) and a little more right trapeze of Victory Peak (7439 m).

The final chords of cycling will be a vast valley in the depths of the country, as well as overcoming the harsh pass in the border with China! We will approach the border with China at a distance of less than 30 km. There are also a lot of pastures for cattle and many national yurts in this region. It is also very difficult to meet a tourist in these parts!

Day 0: Almaty

Meeting guests at the airport.
Transfer to the hotel.
11:00 — General meeting of participants. Acquaintance with the team and participants, briefing. Lunch in a cafe with a national flavor. There will be an opportunity to taste the national cuisine of Central Asia.
Then we are going to move by car in the direction of alpine ice rink «Medeo». From there we take the funicular to the Chimbulak ski resort. Walk in the mountains. We will go up to a height of 3200 meters above sea level, from where you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city.
In the afternoon we go down to the city. A few hours of free time, you can walk around the city.
20:00 — Dinner at the National Cuisine Café of Central Asia.
22:00 — Return to the hotel.

06:30...10:00 — We drive through the beautiful Turgen Gorge to Assy Plateau.
10:00 — Arriving at the Assy observatory.
10:00...11:30 — Breakfast. Pre-start briefing.
11:30 — Start of the bicycle part.
11:30...17:00 — Active bicycle part. On the way we will make a stop for lunchtime snack lunchbox.
17:00 — We arrive in a beautiful place of overnight stay at the red mountains.
17:00...20:00 — Installation of the field camp for the overnight stay. Free time.
20:00 — Dinner.

10:00 — Start of the bicycle part. We overcome a serious pass — unprepared cyclists will walk most of the time or you can go up to the pass by car and then 15 km of technical high-speed descent to the Bartogay reservoir.
13:00...15:30 — Arriving at the Bartogayskoye reservoir — lunchbox snack, loaded into cars and drive to Charyn Canyon.
15:30...17:00 — We go down the canyon by bicycles. A short walk. And back up to the cars. Lunch.
17:00...19:30 — By car we go to Saty village. There we move to the guest house.
20:30 — Dinner. Opportunity to take a shower.

13:00...18:00 — Car part towards overnight in the valley of the river Tekes.

09:00...11:00 — After breakfast we go to a small trekking to Tekes waterfall.
11:30...15:30 — Cycling along the valley of the river Tekes in the direction of the lake Tuzkol. The road will run along the plateau with the loss of height. On the way we will make a stop for a snack lunchbox.
15:00...17:00 — Near the village we load ourselves into escort cars and go by car to Lake Tuzkol, from which we have a magnificent view of the majestic peak Khan-Tengri, 7000 m high. It is the highest mountain in Kazakhstan. The mountain stands on the border of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China. As a rule, the peak is visible only in good weather at dawn and dusk.

20:00 — Dinner. Field night in tents.

17:00...19:00 — By the evening we arrive at the foot of the pass, which we will overcome the next day. We are camping in the field.
20:00 — Dinner. Field night.

08:00...10:00 — Early rise, breakfast.
10:00...15:00 — The cycling part begins with the ascent to the pass. About 8-10 km we go up. Then we go down to 40 km from the pass with big loss of height. On the way we have lunchbox snack.
15:30...19:00 — Overnight accommodation in a hotel complex with a natural hot spring. Here you can relax, swim in the pool, take a shower — the active part of the tour is completed.
19:00 — Dinner. Overnight stay at the hotel.

0900 hours — Wake up, breakfast. We rest for a couple of hours, swim in swimming pools.
12:00 — By lunchtime we go back to Almaty.
14:00...15:00 — On the way to the cafe for lunch in the village of Chilik.
15:00...17:00 — We will be in the city around 5 pm.
Check-in at the hotel. Dinner in the evening in an ethnic restaurant.
